ABB's Furse communication and surveillance surge protection range addresses the specific surge protection requirements of CCTV video systems, RF transmitter and receiver equipment and cable, terrestrial and satellite TV systems, where the combination of outdoor antenna connections, long coaxial cable runs, sensitive electronics and high-frequency signal requirements demands protection devices that simultaneously deliver very low transient let-through voltage, negligible signal attenuation and near-unity VSWR to ensure the protected system continues to operate without performance degradation during and after surge events. Communication and surveillance systems depend on maintaining signal integrity at all times. CCTV cameras protecting buildings, campuses and level crossings rely on continuous uninterrupted video transmission to monitoring equipment. RF systems serving cell sites, satellite earth stations, emergency services communications networks and pager systems require transmitters, receivers and the antenna electronics connected to them to survive the full energy of direct and indirect lightning strikes without loss of service. Terrestrial, cable and satellite TV systems installed in buildings need protection that will not degrade the high-frequency signals that define picture quality and service availability.
Yet each of these systems connects outdoor equipment to indoor electronics via coaxial or twisted pair cables that provide a direct entry path for partial lightning currents and transient overvoltages caused by direct and indirect strikes and switching activity on the wider electrical network. Without correctly specified and installed surge protection at the service entrance and at equipment level, the result is outright damage to sensitive electronics, progressive degradation that shortens system lifetimes and increases maintenance frequency, and loss of service at precisely the moments when communications and surveillance infrastructure are most needed.
ABB offers three dedicated specific systems protection series within the Furse ESP range to address every communication and surveillance surge protection application. The ESP CCTV series provides combined Category D, C and B tested protection to BS EN 61643 for coaxial CCTV video lines with BNC connectors and twisted pair CCTV lines with screw terminals, covering both standard video applications and powered coaxial cable variants at 15 V, 30 V and 50 V DC, with 100 MHz bandwidth and conductive ABS housing for two-way electromagnetic shielding. The ESP RF series provides combined Category D, C and B tested protection for RF coaxial cables from DC up to 3.5 GHz, with power handling up to 780 W, very low attenuation and near-unity VSWR across the full bandwidth, available with N, 7/16 DIN, SMA, TNC and BNC connectors and suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation to IP66. The ESP TV series provides combined Category D, C and B tested protection for cable TV, master antenna TV, satellite TV, terrestrial TV and radio feeds using F and Euro-TV connectors, with bandwidth from 5 MHz to 3224 MHz, low insertion loss and high return loss across each covered frequency band, and 8K readiness to the ISDB-S3 satellite digital broadcast standard.

<p>The ESP CCTV series features a built-in DIN rail foot for clip-on mounting to top-hat DIN rails and holes for flat mounting on base or side, compatible with Furse CME combined mounting and earthing kits that simultaneously mount and earth multiple protectors, including the CME 4 that accommodates video, telemetry and power protectors for a single CCTV camera, while the ESP RF series uses bulkhead-female to male connections for series installation and can be mounted via bulkhead fixing or angled mounting brackets for flexible positioning on masts and antenna entry points.</p>Durable
<p>The ESP CCTV series features a sturdy conductive ABS UL 94 V-0 housing that provides two-way electromagnetic shielding, preventing emissions and giving signals immunity from external interference across the full operating temperature range of -40 to +80 degrees Celsius, the ESP RF series features a robust aluminum housing with IP66 protection for outdoor installation on masts and antenna entry points exposed to weather, and the ESP TV series features a strong diecast metal housing with substantial earth termination that is supplied ready for flat mounting without additional fixings.</p>Flexible
