FURSE® DATA AND SIGNAL SURGE PROTECTION
ABB’s Furse data and signal surge protection range delivers coordinated, end-to-end protection for data, signal, and measurement systems.
ABB's Furse data and signal surge protection range provides fully coordinated, full mode protection against transient overvoltages on every type of data, signal and measurement line, from industrial fieldbus and 4-20 mA loops to Cat-6A Ethernet networks and coaxial CCTV cables. Tested to Combined Category D, C and B to IEC/BS EN 61643-21 and enhanced to IEC/BS EN 62305, the range covers service entrance to terminal equipment protection from LPZ 0 through to LPZ 3 in both standard and hazardous area approved variants.
COMPLETE SURGE PROTECTION FOR EVERY DATA AND SIGNAL LINE
ABB's Furse data and signal surge protection range is one of the most comprehensive data line SPD ranges available, purpose-built to ensure the continuous and safe operation of critical electronic systems wherever data or signal cables enter, leave or travel between buildings. Transient overvoltages caused by direct or indirect lightning strikes and electrical switching events can propagate through data cables just as readily as through mains power lines, and unprotected data systems are equally at risk of damage and disruption. The Furse ESP range addresses this across every application type, from standard two-wire twisted pair applications and 4-20 mA process control loops using the ESP D, E, H and slim line SL series, to dedicated RS485 and Fieldbus protectors with 45 MHz bandwidth, RTD sensor protectors, Cat-6 Ethernet protectors supporting Power over Ethernet and speeds up to 10 Gbps, and CCTV and coaxial RF protectors with bandwidths up to 100 MHz. Every product in ABB's Furse ESP data and signal range delivers full mode protection, handling both partial lightning currents and electrical switching transients between all conductors to keep connected equipment operating continuously without disruption.
KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS

Many of ABB's Furse data and signal surge protection products are designed and manufactured at the Furse facility in Nottingham, United Kingdom, drawing on more than 130 years of earthing and lightning protection expertise. Every product in the range is Combined Category D, C and B tested to IEC/BS EN 61643-21 with enhanced protection levels to IEC/BS EN 62305, and is designed to install simply in series with the protected line without disrupting normal system performance.

Protective

Full mode protection handles both common and differential mode transients between all conductors, including partial lightning currents and electrical switching events, delivering enhanced protection to IEC/BS EN 62305 with very low let-through voltage for all products from LPZ 0 through to LPZ 3.
Comprehensive

The range spans two-wire twisted pair, three-wire, 4-20 mA current loop, RS485, HART, Fieldbus, RTD sensor, Cat-5e and Cat-6 Ethernet with PoE, CCTV coaxial and twisted pair, and coaxial RF applications, with standard, slim line, compact, IP66 ready-boxed and ATEX approved variants available.
Easy installation

Colour coded terminals for quick installation checks, built-in DIN rail feet with locking features for simple clip-on mounting to 35 mm top hat DIN rails, screen terminals for easy cable screen connection to earth, and CME combined mounting and earthing kits for groups of up to 32 protectors all reduce installation time and complexity.
Continuous operation

Two-stage removable protection modules on the slim line SL series allow partial removal for easy line commissioning and maintenance and full removal for rapid protection replacement, keeping systems online with minimal interruption and ensuring protection is never left in an uncertain state.
Space saving

Ultra-slim 7 mm wide SL series and compact 18 mm wide Q series products enable protection of large numbers of lines in process control cabinets, distribution boards and field instrument enclosures where installation space is at a premium.
Reliable

Repeated protection in lightning intense environments, flame retardant polycarbonate and ABS housings, optional LED status indication on SL series and 4-20 mA products, and operating temperatures from -40 to +80 degrees Celsius ensure long-term reliable performance in demanding environments.
Compliant

Certifications include IEC/BS EN 61643-21 (Combined Category D, C and B), IEC/BS EN 62305, BS 7671, UL497B (ESP SL06 to SL180 and RS485Q series under file E240341), Network Rail Approval PA05/02047 (ESP 06E and 15E) and PA05/02510 (ESP CCTV/B).
INDUSTRIES WE SUPPORT
