FURSE® MAINS POWER SURGE PROTECTION
ABB's Furse mains power protection range safeguards critical electronic systems from transient overvoltages at every point in the AC and DC power distribution network.
With advanced three-way status indication, pre-failure warnings, active volt-free contacts and dedicated products for renewable energy and battery storage applications, the range delivers the performance and intelligence needed to keep power systems operating continuously and safely.
KEEP CRITICAL SYSTEMS PROTECTED AT EVERY LEVEL OF THE NETWORK
Transient overvoltages from lightning and electrical switching are one of the most common causes of failure in critical electronic systems, entering buildings via mains power cables and damaging computers, communications equipment, drives, PLCs, UPS systems and medical equipment. ABB's Furse ESP mains power protection range provides a fully coordinated response to this risk, with products specifically selected and matched to every lightning protection zone boundary in the distribution system.
ABB offers Combined Type 1+2+3 ESP M1 and D1 series SPDs for main and sub-distribution boards on single and three phase supplies, delivering full mode protection with an industry-leading voltage protection level enhanced to IEC/BS EN 62305, three-way electronic status indication and an active volt-free contact for building management system integration. Where a structural lightning protection system is installed, the Type 1 ESP T1 series and advanced hybrid ESP DT1 and ESP MT1 series provide high impulse current equipotential bonding at the service entrance. For renewable energy infrastructure, the dedicated ESP PV series protects photovoltaic systems up to 1500 VDC, the ESP WT series covers 690 V wind turbines, and the ESP BESS DC series provides Type 1+2 DC surge protection specifically designed and tested to BS EN/IEC 61643-41 for battery energy storage system converters. Network Rail approved variants of the ESP M1 series provide certified protection on railway infrastructure, and IP66 weatherproof and metallic enclosures extend the range into outdoor and industrial environments.
KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS

Many of ABB's Furse ESP mains power protection products are designed and manufactured at the Furse facility in Nottingham, United Kingdom, where Furse has been a trusted name in earthing and lightning protection for over 130 years. ABB offers a fully coordinated product selector and selection tool to help specify the correct SPD at every location in the distribution system, providing assurance of compliance with IEC/BS EN 62305 and BS 7671 18th Edition across the complete installation.

Protective

Full mode protection delivers very low let-through voltage enhanced to IEC/BS EN 62305 between all sets of conductors simultaneously, including phase to neutral, phase to earth and neutral to earth, handling both partial lightning currents and electrical switching transients across all protection modes in a single device.
Safe

Innovative multiple thermal disconnect technology provides safe disconnection from faulty or abnormal mains supplies without compromising protective performance, while a unique flashing neutral-to-earth fault warning alerts users to potentially dangerous wiring errors, earthing faults or unbalanced supply conditions caused by incorrect installation.
Reliable

Repeated protection capability in lightning intense environments, robust steel housings with ultra-low inductance earth bond bases, operating temperatures from -20 to +60 degrees Celsius and pluggable module designs with anti-vibration locking clips ensure long-term reliable performance throughout the life of the installation.
Monitorable

Three-way electronic status indication provides full protection, reduced protection and no protection warnings with advanced pre-failure alerting, and the active changeover volt-free contact enables the SPD and supply status including phase loss to be monitored and signalled remotely via a building management system, buzzer or indicator light.
Comprehensive range

The range covers single phase 120 V, 240 V and 277 V, three phase 208 V, 415 V and 480 V AC supplies, DC systems from 48 V to 1500 VDC, photovoltaic systems, 690 V wind turbine systems and battery energy storage systems, with Combined Type 1+2+3, Type 1+2 and Type 2 products available for every point in the distribution network.
Easy installation

Compact DIN rail housings mount to 35 mm top hat DIN rails, large colour coded terminals simplify connection checks, series and parallel installation options accommodate low and high current supplies, and optional remote display unit variants for the D1R series allow the SPD to be mounted close to the incoming feed while the display is positioned for easy visibility.
Continuous operation

Advanced pre-failure warning ensures the SPD protection status is always known before protection is lost entirely, pluggable replacement modules enable rapid maintenance without rewiring, and full mode design allows connected equipment to continue operating during and after surge events without interruption.
Compliant

Certifications include IEC/BS EN 61643-11 (Type 1+2+3 and Type 1+2 AC SPDs), IEC/BS EN 61643-31 (DC PV SPDs), IEC/BS EN 61643-41 (BESS DC SPDs), IEC/BS EN 62305, BS 7671 18th Edition and Network Rail Approvals PA05/02700 (ESP 120 M1) and PA05/01832 (ESP 240 M1).
INDUSTRIES WE SUPPORT
