FURSE® TELECOMS AND COMPUTER SURGE PROTECTION
ABB’s Furse telecoms and computer line protection range delivers reliable surge protection for telecommunications and data networks.
ABB's Furse telecoms and computer line protection range safeguards telephone exchanges, computer networks, ISDN systems and data communications interfaces from transient overvoltages, ensuring connected equipment remains operational in lightning intense environments. Designed and enhanced to IEC/BS EN 62305 with full mode protection and very low let-through voltage, the range provides a complete data and signal surge protection solution to complement the Furse ESP mains power protection range.
PROTECT EVERY SIGNAL LINE, FROM THE TELEPHONE EXCHANGE TO THE EtherNet PORT
Complete protection of electronic systems against lightning and surge damage requires that all incoming and outgoing cables are protected, not only the mains power supply. Data, telephone and computer communications lines entering or leaving a building are equally capable of carrying transient overvoltages directly to sensitive equipment such as computers, servers, PBX telephone exchanges, modems, network switches and process control systems.
ABB's Furse ESP telecoms and computer line protection range provides a fully coordinated response to this risk across the full breadth of modern communications infrastructure. For telephone line protection, the range spans wire-in ESP TN series products for PSTN, DSL and broadband applications, plug-in ESP TN/JP and ESP TN/RJ11 series protectors for BT and RJ11 socket installations, ESP ISDN/RJ45 series products for ISDN lines and ESP KT and K10T1 series protectors for PBX systems terminating on LSA-PLUS disconnection modules, with variants featuring resettable overcurrent protection for power cross fault conditions. For computer network protection, the Cat-6 series provide full mode surge protection for shielded and unshielded twisted pair Ethernet networks up to 10 Gbps, including Power over Ethernet modes A and B, using low capacitance circuitry specifically designed to deliver effective protection without degrading network signal integrity or reducing transmission distances. For RS232, RS422 and RS485 data communications, the ESP LA and LB series extend protection to the equipment interface level within buildings. All products in the range are Class D+C+B tested to IEC/BS EN 61643-21, suitable for installation from the service entrance LPZ 0 boundary through to terminal equipment at LPZ 3, and are enhanced to IEC/BS EN 62305.
KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS

Many of ABB's Furse telecoms and computer line protection products are designed and manufactured at the Furse facility in Nottingham, United Kingdom, where Furse has been developing earthing and lightning protection solutions for over 130 years. ABB provides fully coordinated product selection guidance to help specifiers match the correct data and signal SPD to every line type, installation point and lightning protection zone boundary within a building, complementing the Furse ESP mains power protection range to deliver complete system-level surge protection in accordance with IEC/BS EN 62305.

Protective

Full mode protection delivers very low let-through voltage enhanced to IEC/BS EN 62305 between all signal lines simultaneously, handling partial lightning currents across all protection modes while allowing connected equipment to continue operating, protecting telephone exchanges, computer networks and data communications interfaces against both direct and indirect lightning surge events.
Reliable

Repeated protection capability in lightning intense environments and a temperature operating range of -40 to +80 degrees Celsius ensure long-term reliable performance, while flame retardant ABS housings with substantial earth connections maintain surge protection integrity throughout the service life of the installation.
Continuous operation

Low in-line resistance minimizes unnecessary reductions in signal strength to maximize signaling distance, low capacitance circuitry in the Cat-6 series prevents start-up signal degradation, and full mode design ensures Ethernet and telephone systems are not impaired by the presence of surge protection devices during normal operation.
Easy installation

Colour coded terminals on the ESP D and TN series provide a quick and easy installation check with grey for the dirty line end and green for the clean end, plug-in ESP KT and K10T1 series products with bump location feedback install directly onto LSA-PLUS disconnection modules without tools, and all products mount flat or vertically via a 35 mm top hat DIN rail for flexible integration within existing cabinets and enclosures.
Comprehensive range

The range covers analogue PSTN, DSL, broadband and T1/E1 telephone lines, U interface and S/T interface ISDN lines, PBX exchanges with LSA-PLUS modules, shielded and unshielded twisted pair Ethernet networks from 100baseT to 10GbaseT with and without Power over Ethernet, RS232 interfaces up to DB-25 and RS422 and RS485 data communications, providing protection for every data and signal line type found in commercial, industrial and infrastructure installations.
Cost effective

The ESP KT and K10T1 series provide low cost protection for large numbers of telephone lines on a single LSA-PLUS disconnection module, the ESP K10T1 protects all ten lines on a disconnection module simultaneously, and variants with power cross fault protection include resettable overcurrent protection that auto-resets once the fault is corrected to avoid unnecessary line interruptions.
Weatherproof options

Ready-boxed ESP TN/BX and ESP TN/2BX derivatives and weatherproof WBX enclosures in IP66 rating allow ESP telecoms and computer line protection products to be installed in damp, dirty and outdoor environments including external equipment enclosures, CCTV installations and remote site locations where indoor panel mounting is not possible.
Compliant

Certifications include IEC/BS EN 61643-21 Class D+C+B, IEC/BS EN 62305, ITU-T K.20/K.21/K.45, Telcordia GR-1089-CORE, ANSI TIA/EIA/IS-968-A (formerly FCC Part 68), IEEE 802.3bt PoE modes A and B and Network Rail PADS references 086/000551 (ESP 06D) and 086/000553 (ESP 50D).
INDUSTRIES WE SUPPORT
