- Easy to use architecture
-
Easy to install
The integrated Ethernet architecture and plug and play design of CMES condition monitoring reduces wiring and connection time while simplifying the integration of system devices. In fact, it can reduce the number of hardware components by 60%. No complex configurations, multiple DIN-rail adapters or gateways are necessary. Using the Digital Edge device connecting the switchgear devices is quick. No extensive user parameterization is required.
-
Speed up your project
Because CMES condition monitoring is native with ABB devices, system design is streamlined, and savings on hardware and architecture are immediate. Unmatched scalability and flexibility enable easy integration with complex supervision and management systems in both single- and multiple-switchgear assemblies or for switchgear extensions in future. As a result, even the initial cost and build-up time of top-level systems, such as electrical or process control systems, can be reduced by 15%.
-
Optimum interface
The connectivity of the CMES conditition monitoring is based on Ethernet technology Modbus TCP and OPC UA. Connectivity to upper level control and monitoring systems is provided by industry standard protocols based serial (Modbus, Profibus) or Ethernet (Modbus TCP, Profinet, IEC 61850).
-
Continuous operation
Continuous diagnostics of the devices in the electrical system enable a higher level of predictive maintenance to help avoid downtime and the costs of unnecessary preventive maintenance and equipment checks, with savings of up to 30%. Alerts and notifications ensure quick response to potential problems, so performance isn’t compromised.
-
Energy efficiency
Real-time access to power distribution data from anywhere, anytime, allows you to monitor loads, view costs, reduce energy consumption at peak periods and increase demand when most advantageous - all with a few clicks. Comprehensive electrical system data collection makes comparative analysis, benchmarking, reporting, cost allocation and implementation of energy management strategies easy and fast. By eliminating inefficiencies in the system CMES condition monitoring can help cut overall operational costs by up to 30%.
Monitor

Switchgear conditions such as temperature, current levels, energy consumption, alarm and warning levels are collected and stored for further analysis, real-time data enable user to make right decision at right time.
Analyze

Algorithms that consider multiple data and do not require human input make decisions i.e. whether a temperature increase is a critical situation due to loose connection or a normal situation due to increase load demand.
Predict

Counting repeating activities of a period such as removing and inserting withdrawable functional units in a switchgear assembly decide on the next maintenance cycle. Preventive maintenance based on a schedule is a past.
Optimize

Unusual levels of energy consumption even of smaller loads influence total plant operational costs. Identifying such and similar situations enable process optimization at a new scale.

CMES condition monitoring is built on state-of-the-art architecture for data collection, processing and storage. This architecture has been developed by ABB to enhance performance and ensure the highest reliability and availability. User access is provided by defined access levels and password credentials.

Electrical switchgear devices such as circuit breakers, motor controller, power meter, temperature sensors etc collect electrical parameter data such as current, power, temperatures and other condition data that are send over the Ethernet to the CMES condition monitoring platform.

The software, accessible on premise through web browser technology and with defined user credentials, provides an easy to user dashboard to access the required information including reports, trends and maintenance information.

Left side: tree viewer with user selectable vies by location, network or switchgear assembly
Main view: user selectable widgets to provide most important information at first:

- Single line view with graphical status of individual components in a feeder module
- Real time measurement of electrical and condition parameter
- Trend displays
- Maintenance information
Customer definable reports and trend displays are accessible from the menu bar at the top.
A simple and integrated architecture enables scalable and always-up-to- date services. CMES condition monitoring, available on a Digital Edge device installed in the switchgear assembly, connects to MNS through an Ethernet interface. The electrical devices as part of the switchgear assembly are easily known by using an available configuration file.
No user programming of the condition monitoring is required. An easy-to-use integrator software is provided enabling the solution quickly to connect to the low-voltage switchgear solution and with its plug and play devices. It is possible to retrofit the installed base, with both ABB components' supply and 3rd party vendor's, through Digital Gateway device connected to the Digital Edge device as the platform for CMES condition monitoring. In addition to Emax 2 for ACB retrofit, also the Ekip UP is supported.
