Primary Distribution

Primary distribution responsible for distributing electrical energy from high-voltage transmission to medium voltage networks. Medium voltage levels can then directly feed electricity to industries (ie. steel, mining, chemicals, etc.) or to a secondary distribution network for end user consumption. ABB offers medium voltage components for connection, protection and control from vacuum circuit breakers to protection relays and sensors. ABB’s grid components are available for original equipment manufacturers (OEM), panel builders and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPCs) partners to incorporate in their own installations or for use in repair, retrofit and upgrade projects.

Secondary Distribution

Secondary distribution connects the primary distribution network operating in medium voltage with end users operating in low voltage. Secondary distribution substations are usually placed within urban areas, where space is limited. ABB’s offers medium voltage components for connection, protection and control from vacuum circuit breakers to protection relays and sensors. ABB’s grid components are available for original equipment manufacturers (OEM), panel builders and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPCs) partners to incorporate in their own installations or for use in repair, retrofit and upgrade projects.

Outdoor

ABB offers a robust and versatile portfolio of grid components engineered for the most demanding outdoor environments, ranging from vacuum reclosers, Live-Tank circuit breakers, and sectionalizers ready to support the different needs of an evolving grid. ABB outdoor grid components are available for Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPCs) partners and original equipment manufacturers (OEM) as well as end customers in the utility, renewable and industry segments. ABB’s grid components can be incorporated in new infrastructure or for upgrading existing networks.

Core components

ABB offers a wide portfolio of medium voltage core components from vacuum interrupters and embedded poles, to arc fault protection and fault current limiter solutions to instrument transformers and sensors - all supporting the different needs of an evolving grid.
