Protection for washdown and outdoor areas
Harsh industrial environments can expose electrical equipment to dust, water, temperature fluctuations, and frequent cleaning. In these conditions, the enclosure is essential for protecting internal components and ensuring reliable operation.
IP ratings indicate how well an enclosure protects against dust and water ingress.
For IP66, the first digit (6 – solids) means the enclosure is completely dust-tight, while the second digit (6 – liquids) indicates protection against powerful water jets. To meet this rating, the enclosure must withstand 100 liters of water per minute at 100 kPa from a distance of 3 meters for at least 3 minutes without harmful ingress.
Choosing the right enclosure rating helps ensure equipment is suited to its environment. Higher levels of ingress protection improve reliability and allow equipment to be installed closer to the application, even in areas exposed to dust, moisture, or washdown conditions.
Protection in demanding industrial environments

Industrial environments can expose drives to moisture, contaminants, chemicals and frequent washdowns. The IP66 enclosure protects against dust and water ingress, helping ensure reliable operation in harsh conditions.
Reliable operation in outdoor environments

Drives in outdoor and exposed environments may face temperature swings, UV radiation, rain, salt spray and washdown. An IP66-rated enclosure helps protect against dust and water ingress, supporting use in wet and washdown areas, cold environments down to -20 °C (-4 °F) with provisions, and temperatures up to 50 °C (122 °F) with derating.
Resilience against chemical exposure

Corrosive environments can expose drives to chemicals such as biocides, ammonia and chlorine, which may affect equipment surfaces and long-term reliability. An IP66-rated enclosure helps protect the drive from dust and water ingress, while supporting operation in areas where chemical exposure may be present.
Performance in humid conditions

High-humidity environments can create conditions that may affect electrical equipment over time. An IP66-rated enclosure helps protect the drive from dust and water ingress, supporting reliable operation where moisture is present in the surrounding environment.
Typical applications
