V1.6.x.x:

  1. Added position command response function.
  2. Added MDI control function.
  3. Enhanced the system overload capacity from 300% to 350% for 50 W ~ 750 W motors.
  4. Improved product usability.

V1.5.x.x:

  1. Supported new 220 V DSM motors (DSMxxx-…-xxxx1).
  2. Improved key functions, including: touch probe, infinite rotary mode, etc.

V1.4.x.x:

  1. Started to unify the version numbers with the 1st and 2nd digits covering E530-PT 220 V, E530-EC 220 V and E530-EC 400 V.
  2. Changed and improved the inertia identification accuracy and auto tuning process significantly together with function pages in Servo Composer.

  1. E530 firmware can be upgraded by Servo Composer with released firmware files.
  2. The latest firmware version is V1.6.x.x, and if users need to upgrade to V1.6 from very old versions (e.g.V1.0/1.1), strongly suggest to upgrade to V1.5 firstly, then upgrade to V1.6. Otherwise, F0100/F8100 could occur.
  3. Notice:
    • After finished the firmware upgrade, power cycle is needed for effective.
    • When power on again, F0100, F0101 could happen due to parameters changing, then DEFAULT (AF003) is needed to clear these faults and power cycle for effective.
    • During the above process of power cycle, there may be a few seconds of black screen. Do not cut off the power and wait until the LED  displays normally; otherwise, the upgrade may fail, resulting in the drive being unable to start properly again.
    • In order to synchronize the parameter data to commissioning tool, Servo Composer is strongly suggested to restart too.

  1. For 220 V motors, 20 bits and 23 bits encoder both options can be offered to customers, which need to manually select by P01.07.
    - P01.07 = 0: 20 bits encoder (S1/S2), will stop selling since 2026
    - P01.07 = 1: 23 bits encoder (T3/T0)
  2. For E530-PT V1.5 and before, the default value of P01.07 is 0, changed to 1 since V1.6.
  3. For E530-EC V1.4 and before, the default value of P01.07 is 0, changed to 1 since V1.5.
  4. If the actual motor encoder is not match the value of P01.07, then F2002, F0104, F4000 will be occurred, then P01.07 need to change and power cycle for effective.

  1. When support new 220 V DSM motors with old firmware (before V1.5),F9004 will happen.
  2. The reason is the incompatibility of new motors and old firmware, so users need to upgrade the firmware to V1.5 and later versions to fix it.

  1. For multi-turn absolute encoder (T0, S2), when connecting the encoder cable with battery to motor at the first time, the drive will occur F2010 fault.
  2. For T0 encoder, since V1.6 firmware version, AF012 can be used to initialize the absolute encoder by clearing F2010 fault and multi-turn data, which will be effective immediately and don't need power cycle.
  3. For S2 encoder, by V1.5 or V1.6 firmware version, AF012 can used to clear multi-turn data and AF013 need to be used to clear the F2010 fault, meanwhile, the power cycle is needed for effective.

  1. In order to easily change the motor rotate direction for specific application, E530 drives support to change it by parameters.
  2. For E530-PT drives, P01.01 can be used to set the motor rotate direction.
  3. For E530-EC drives, EtherCAT object 607Eh can be used to set the motor rotate direction for V1.4 and before versions, and have changed to P01.01 since V1.5.

  1. For E530-EC 400 V drives, the external 24 VDC is a MUST for the control power with addition to 380 V ~ 480 V main power. The required specification for external 24 V DC is 24 V DC (-10% ~ 10%), and max. 1.2 A needed for one drive.
  2. For E530-PT/E530-EC 220 V drives, the control power comes from DC bus, so NO additional external power supply is needed.

  1. E530-EC supports infinite rotary mode function based on drive and controller solutions both.
  2. For E530-EC 220 V drives, both solutions are supported since V1.4.
  3. For E530-EC 400V drives:
    • Based on controller solution is supported since V1.4.
    • Based on drive solution can be supported since V1.5 with new 400 V hardware versions (1.5/2 kW version B and later, 4 kW version C and later, 5/7.5 kW version B and later).

  1. E530-EC supports touch probe function with 2 fast digital input (DI5/DI6) or Z pulse to trigger.
  2. It is strongly suggested to use this function with firmware versions of V1.5 and later.

Refer to the method in AN300 "Application Note - Tuning a E530 Servo Drive via the Servo Composer" to realize the parameter tuning for the drive and motor to reach the best possible performance.

Refer to AN301 "Application Note - E530 PTI Servo Drives Getting Started Guide".

Refer to AN302 "Application Note - Setting Up Modbus TCP Communications Between ABB E530 Servo Drive and CP600 HMI".

  1. The setting of big-endian or little-endian (selected by parameter P11.01):

    • When E530-PT connecting AC500/-eCo PLC, then set P11.01=2.
    • When E530-PT connecting Siemens PLC, then set P11.01=0.
  2. Modbus register address:

    • 40000 (or 400000) + HEX2DEC (drive para. address) + 1

MDI (Machinery Drive Interface) is a new function supported by the E530-PT product since version V1.6. It enables position, speed, and torque control based on Modbus TCP communication through newly defined control words, status words, commands, and status register parameters (P14 group parameters). Additionally, when combined with a standard AC500-eCo PLC and the newly developed PLCopen-based MDI function blocks in Automation Builder, it allows for easy implementation of multi-axis bus control based on Modbus TCP communication.

  1. When the drive failed to power on (no display on panel) after firmware upgrade, users can recover the system by REVOVERY function. Now this function is available for E530-EC variant.

  2. Operation process:

    • Power on the drive when the M and OK buttons are pressed, and release the buttons after the characters appear on the drive panel for 3 seconds.
    • Upgrade the firmware again.

Starting from the firmware version V1.6, when using the AF003/Default function to restore factory settings, the IP address parameters (P11.04 ~ P11.07) will no longer be reset to their factory defaults. Instead, they will retain the last configured values. When multiple drives are simultaneously connected to the commissioning tool, this feature eliminates the need to reconfigure IP addresses after a factory reset, thereby streamlining the operation process.

The system’s maximum overload capability with different motors is as follows:

  1. 220 V servo motors:

    • 50 W ~ 750 W: 350% (300% for firmware V1.5 and earlier)
    • 850 W ~ 2 kW: 300%
  2. 400 V servo motors:

    • Low inertia motors (DSMxxL): 300%
    • Highinertia motors (DSMxxH): 250%
