Geared shaft generators
ABB supplies shaft generators for installation directly in the main shaft or for connection via a gearbox. Every shaft generator is tailored for an optimal match with the vessel design. Geared high speed shaft generators cover the powers up 7000 kW and the rated speed is from 1200 to 1800 rpm.
Every shaft generator is tailored for an optimal match with the vessel design
Solutions are available for fixed speed operation (from low to high voltage) and for variable speed, using either a low or medium voltage frequency converter.
ABB variable speed shaft generators can be used either as a generator (PTO, power take off) or motor (PTI, power take in).
- In PTO mode the shaft generators is and efficient way of producing power for use on board, and helps to reduce fuel costs and emissions.
- In PTI mode the shaft generator is operated as a motor to boost the main engine power.
PTH (power to home) solutions are also possible, with the shaft generator used as an alternative propulsion motor to the main engine.
Key benefits
Tailored design for optimal vessel match
Each shaft generator is customized to fit the vessel's design, ensuring maximum efficiency and reliability. Every unit is rigorously designed and tested according to strict quality procedures and international standards to ensure safety and top performance.Wide power range and flexibility
Variable speed generators cover up to 10 MW, and fixed speed options are available for different voltage levels. Options for pre-assembled rotors or separate poles simplify and speed up installation at the shipyard.Fuel cost and emission reduction
In PTO mode, generators efficiently produce onboard power, reducing fuel consumption and emissions. In PTI mode, the generator acts as a motor to boost main engine power, improving propulsion flexibility.Marine certification and reliability
Fully marine-certified solutions with robust designs and high-quality construction for dependable operation in new builds or retrofits.Technical data for the synchronous type
