S500-S I/O modules

ABB’s S500-S safety I/O modules seamlessly integrate into the AC500-S safety PLC platform and support centralized or distributed configurations. The three modules cover digital and analog safety signals and, together with their terminal units, form a robust solution for safety automation across a wide range of machine and process safety applications, in both standard and harsh industrial environments.

Safety signal handling

ABB’s S500-S safety I/O modules combine high channel density with a compact footprint, enabling efficient safety integration into both centralized and distributed architectures via PROFINET/PROFIsafe — even with third-party systems. The I/O channels on each module can be used individually or configured in two-out-of-two mode to meet higher safety requirements. In the latter case, smart two-channel evaluation onboard the module simplifies safety parameterization and programming. Onboard LEDs for each I/O channel indicate safety status, accelerating diagnostics and fault detection. Spring terminals ensure stable and secure signal transmission over time, even in the toughest operating conditions.
