Stressometer - Flatness measurement & control

The Stressometer System FSA is designed to combine the best strip flatness control with the lowest cost of ownership.

Overview

Flatness remains one of the most difficult parameters to control. Variations arise from shifting load conditions, roll wear, thermal effects, and changes in strip tension often within the same coil. Without fast, high-resolution measurement across the full strip width, these issues are impossible to detect and correct in time.

Key Benefits

Lowest cost of ownership

Based on the performance of more than 1,700 roll installations, mean time between failures (MTBF) has proven to exceed 20 years. On-site recalibration of the roll is not necessary, leading to outstanding system reliability.

Pressductor® Technology

ABB's Pressductor transducer stands for unbeatable performance, thanks to its unique combination of accuracy, overload capacity and ability to withstand harsh environments.

Unique solution

Our technology includes a calibration-free system with an unsurpassed measurement density and response time, longterm accuracy and integrated model based multivariable control.

Minimize rejects and production disturbances

Direct and parallel measurement techniques provide rapid, accurate results unaffected by strip ten-sion, enabling precise flatness control and quick correction of edge stresses to reduce rejects and prevent strip breaks.

Minimize pass time

With a Stressometer system in the mill, strip break risks due to bad flatness will not limit acceleration and mill speed. Pass times are reduced and productivity increased. The improved strip edge control is enabled thanks to edge measurement resolution down to a few millimeters.

Minimize environmental impact

Improved flatness from the cold mill reduces downstream rejects and environmental impact, and substantial scrap reduction results in considerable decrease of carbon footprint.
