Global robotics solutions built for automotive excellence

ABB empowers automotive manufacturers worldwide with one of the industry’s most comprehensive automation portfolios. Our solutions are designed to boost productivity, enhance quality, and protect worker safety, helping factories run smarter and faster. With over 500,000 robots installed and the industry’s broadest service network, ABB is driving the future of automotive manufacturing.

What we offer in assembly

Battery solutions

ABB Robotics leads in automation for the electric vehicle industry, delivering robotic solutions that make battery cell, module, and tray production faster, safer, and more precise. With flexible systems and smart technologies, our robots streamline battery pack assembly, cut costs, and improve both quality and worker safety.

Chassis solutions

Our standardized, modular cells integrate a wide range of joining technologies - welding, laser cutting, dispensing, gluing, clinching, riveting, and more - giving manufacturers the tools to handle complex production with ease. From battery trays and cross-car beams to doors, bumpers, frames, axles, seats, and exhaust systems, ABB solutions ensure precision, efficiency, and scalability across every major chassis component.

E-Motor solutions

ABB provides innovative and flexible automation solutions for electric motor assembly. Using our robots, functional modules, and modular cells, manufacturers can build smart final assembly lines covering magnetic rotor and stator assembly, quality and leak testing, and Power Electrical Box (PEB) production. Integration with AMRs and AGVs ensures seamless material flow and connectivity between stations.

Hydrogen solutions

Hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) are the next step in automotive efficiency and still very much under development, however, ABB offer a wide portfolio of EV solutions, tailored to hydrogen drive train key components. Our solutions are focused on hydrogen fuel cell stack lines and hydrogen tanks manufacturing lines, but also for battery packs and power electronics controller boxes.

Interior solutions

ABB specializes in automation solutions for automotive interiors, delivering advanced robotic cells for a wide range of applications. Our expertise covers precise flaming and clipping of plastic components such as dashboards, center consoles, door panels, and armrests. We also provide efficient screwing and ironing for just-in-time (JIT) seats, along with textile handling and sewing tailored to airbag production. To ensure the highest quality, our inspection systems detect and prevent defective parts from entering the production line.

Final assembly solutions

We provide complete solutions for automotive final assemblies, such as wind and rear shields, head and tail lamps, door removal, tire mounting and others. Our value chain includes the intralogistics, pre-assembly, final assembly and quality inspection for automotive customers, adapting to existing lines or starting from scratch at new factories.

AMR solutions for the Automotive industry

ABB’s Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) bring flexibility, safety, and efficiency to automotive manufacturing. From parts delivery and line feeding to end-of-line logistics, our AMRs seamlessly integrate into production, reducing bottlenecks and boosting productivity across the entire value chain.
