Customer letter

Dear Customers,

ABB is committed to maintaining a socially responsible supply chain with a strong focus on Conflict Minerals as outlined in the ABB Policy on Conflict Minerals.

Conflict Minerals have fueled and continue to help sustain armed violence in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). ABB had to respond to this global challenge and take action to support responsible minerals sourcing.

These actions include:

  • Establishing a Conflict Minerals Program in line with the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas.
  • Annually assessing our product portfolio to identify where tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold (also known as “3TG”) are present. Currently, only a small portion of our products have been determined not to contain any 3TG.
  • Identifying the impacted suppliers and working together with our suppliers to identify the source of origin of the 3TG contained in our products.
  • Engaging in the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) and actively supporting efforts to persuade smelters and refiners to undergo certification and become compliant.

In May 2018, ABB filed its fifth Conflict Minerals Report (CMR) with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). ABB fulfilled reporting requirements, contributing to industry-wide efforts to increase transparency in sourcing practices.

The fourth benchmarking study "Mining the Disclosures 2018 – An Investor Guide to Conflict Minerals Reporting in Year Five" was published by the Responsible Sourcing Network (RSN) project. ABB has been acknowledged among the top performers in this study as well as in the reports for previous years.

This demonstrates ABB’s commitment to supply chain compliance as well as to sourcing in a socially responsible manner.

As your supplier we are pleased to share this information with you and count on delivering continued excellence.
