ABB Corporate Research Center in Switzerland
The ABB Corporate Research Center in Baden-Dättwil was established in 1967. Since then, we have been continuously pushing technological limits.
We introduced breakthrough technologies such as the self-blast circuit breaker, the super-twisted liquid crystal display (LCD), high-temperature super conducting current limiter and transformer, metal oxide surge arrestors (varistors), power electronic components (GTO, IGBT and IGCT semiconductors and packages) and systems (converters) and a number of first-of-a-kind automation solutions: graphical SW engineering, fault-tolerant control systems, precursors of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and cybersecurity.
Our current focus areas include:
- Power Electronics
- Energy Storage
- Intelligent Systems
- Switching
We collaborate with leading universities around the world, including the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ) and Lausanne (EPFL), Imperial College London, KIT Karlsruhe, Politecnico di Milano, TU Dresden and many others.
