To preserve the earth's resources for future generations, we are moving to circular business models that eliminate waste and keep products and materials in use. Our Circularity Approach covers all stages of the product life cycle, from design and sourcing, through production and use, all the way to responsible end-of-life services.
To support our customers in meeting their circularity commitments, we have in place retrofit, take-back and recycling solutions and services that extend or give a second life to our products. Some examples include the recycling of large motors and the retrofitting of windmills, ships and robots. With this support, we ensure some of the world's most complex and critical infrastructure lasts longer and operates in the most efficient way.
We are assessing our Circularity Approach against the latest regulatory developments and key sustainability standards that address circularity and product performance.
Waste
Target
Send zero waste to landfill while reducing waste generation by 2030.*
We aim to send zero waste from our own operations to landfill by 2030, wherever this is compatible with local conditions and regulations, while developing our capability to prevent waste generation.
*Waste from demolition and construction excluded from landfill; not including hazardous waste.
PROGRESS
Non-hazardous waste to landfill
Footnote: Waste from demolition and construction are excluded from the target; waste sent to incineration without energy recovery is included. In 2025, the calculation of the KPI was refined to include hazardous waste sent to landfill or incineration, which was previously excluded.
Circularity
Target
Achieve 80% alignment score for product-based revenues with the ABB Circularity Framework by 2030.*
Our Circularity Approach encompasses our company-wide efforts to address the risks and opportunities related to resource use. It establishes a clear set of key performance indicators (KPIs) which correspond to each stage of the product lifecycle: from design and sourcing to product manufacturing; from optimized use phase to responsible end-of-life.
*Product-based revenues are by default, non-service-related third-party revenues from ABB-owned products, excluding systems, internal sales, and non-promoted brands. Exclusions follow documented company guidelines.
PROGRESS
By the end of 2025, we assessed 46 percent of our product portfolio against our Circularity Framework and achieved an alignment of 27 percent.
