EXECUTION CERTAINTY FOR POWER-INTENSIVE FPSO

Modern Floating Production Storage and Offloading units (FPSOs) demand precision: denser topsides, more integrated systems, higher power demands. Early, integrated system design is critical to controlling execution risk, power system performance and lifecycle cost.

ABB's integrated automation, electrification, and digital approach addresses the root cause to deliver results:

  • Reduce offshore work scope through prefabricated E-House solutions

  • Minimize critical interface points during FEED-stage alignment

  • Lower lifecycle costs with optimized electrical architecture decisions

FPSO INTEGRATION AND CHALLENGES TODAY

FPSOs are no longer "just processing vessels".

Modern designs are denser, more power-intensive, and heavily integrated - but execution approaches haven't evolved.

Late coordination across electrification, automation and digital systems results in rework, schedule delays, and reliability gaps. When these systems are designed in silos, interface problems surface only when it's most expensive to fix them.

TAILORED OFFERINGS FOR FPSO

Integrated e-house

ELECTRICAL MODULARIZATION & E-HOUSE EXPERTISE

Integrated, Certified, and Site-Ready Electrical & Control Infrastructure

ABB brings deep expertise in the design and delivery of modular E‑House solutions that enable safe, predictable, and accelerated execution of FPSO and FLNG projects. E‑Houses are pre‑fabricated, walk‑in, modular outdoor enclosures designed to house electrical, automation, safety, telecommunications and digital systems within a secure, controlled environment—meeting the stringent operational and regulatory demands of the Oil & Gas industry. Through standardized yet project‑tailored electrical houses, site risk is reduced while schedule certainty and quality improve.

Engineered for Harsh & Hazardous Environments

Oil & Gas operations demand infrastructure that performs reliably under extreme conditions. E-House designs can be customized to meet project specific Fire Ratings, Blast Resistance, and Hazardous Area classifications, ensuring suitability for offshore FPSO / FLNG, onshore production facilities, refineries, LNG plants.

Each E-House is engineered to comply with local and international standards, applicable codes, and third-party certifications, supporting regulatory approval and seamless integration into Oil & Gas FPSO / FLNG projects worldwide.

Fully Integrated & Factory Tested

E-Houses are delivered as complete, integrated solutions, significantly reducing on site construction activities and exposure to operational risk. Depending on project requirements, each E-House is equipped with:

  • Lighting systems designed for desired Lux levels and project-based applications
  • HVAC systems designed for high temperature and corrosive environments
  • Fire & Gas (F&G) detection and suppression systems
  • VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus) for early fire detection and asset protection

All electrical, control, and automation equipment is installed, factory tested, and pre commissioned, ensuring quality assurance, functional integrity, and faster site start up.

Optimized for Project Logistics & Installation

To meet Oil & Gas project logistics and site access constraints, E-Houses can be designed for single lift or multiple lift configurations. This enables efficient transportation, offshore lifting, and installation in remote, brownfield, or space constrained environments—while maintaining structural strength and compliance.

FPSO LIFECYCLE SUPPORT FROM FEED TO OPERATIONS

FPSO success is not defined at first oil alone. These assets operate for decades — ABB's solutions support vessels in 20-year lease agreements, operating continuously at 100,000+ barrels of oil per day while managing complex subsea infrastructure. Reliability, uptime and upgradeability over the full lifecycle are just as critical as successful commissioning.

ABB supports FPSOs across the full lifecycle — from concept development and FEED through EPC execution, commissioning, operations, optimization and brownfield upgrades. With solutions ranging from 72 MW power distribution systems (Peregrino FPSO) to remote collaborative support that enables lower-cost maintenance and faster troubleshooting, ABB delivers execution certainty from first oil through decades of operations. Lifecycle‑oriented system design helps sustain asset performance and protect long‑term value.

HYBRID & LOW‑CARBON FPSO CONCEPTS

Decarbonizing FPSOs is a phased engineering challenge. Hybrid power concepts are increasingly evaluated at FEED stage to determine what is technically and economically viable across the asset lifecycle.

ABB supports early‑stage evaluation of hybrid FPSO concepts — including offshore wind integration, battery energy storage and future‑fuel readiness.
