Enefit Continues to Boost Efficiency After an Analyzer-Driven Assessment with ABB

News

Energy efficiency is becoming a decisive factor in long‑term industrial planning, particularly for operators running equipment in continuous duty cycles. For many industrial manufacturers, reducing total cost of ownership (TCO) is now just as important as ensuring process performance, an insight recently underscored by Estonian state‑owned operator Enefit.

Enefit operates in many areas, including renewable energy production, power supply, and marine fuel supply. They have been collaborating with ABB for many years as part of their operations.

When facing new operational demands as part of a significant modernization effort at one of their sites, they required motors capable of supporting longer operating windows and tighter process requirements, without increasing energy consumption. This meant looking for suppliers that could deliver a solution to match these requirements.

Data‑Driven Motor Selection with ABB Technology

During the evaluation process, in which energy efficiency was a key driver for selection, ABB presented to Enefit Power its Energy Efficiency Analyzer, a modeling tool that simulates long‑term power usage, energy costs, CO₂ impact, and performance scenarios for different motor options.

“The Energy Efficiency Analyzer gives customers a clear view of total cost of ownership,” explained Toni Tiihonen, Sales Director at ABB. “It shows projected CO₂ emissions and lifetime energy costs, enabling more informed decisions when selecting new motors.”

The simulations revealed compelling long-term benefits for Enefit Power, including reduced energy and OPEX savings, CO2 reductions, and shorter payback time. The Analyzer made it possible to clearly link performance improvements to reduced energy use, lower emissions, and increased cost stability across the plant’s operating profile in comparison to other suppliers’ offerings.

ABB Motor Selected for Long-Term Efficiency and Value

Following the analysis, Enefit Power selected a Large Induction Motor from ABB, citing projected efficiency gains and lifetime cost advantages as key factors. “Enefit Power evaluated all key criteria—purchase price, energy efficiency, and the cost of downtime,” Tiihonen noted.

“When analyzing total cost of ownership, ABB’s motor stood out for its efficiency and overall value.” Lauri Karp, Chairman of the Management Board of Enefit Industry stated. “ABB motors are present in many of the technological nodes across our production equipment. This includes new facilities under construction… where ABB motors play a central role”.

The Large Induction Motor is now operating on-site, fully aligned with the plant’s duty requirements and contributing to consistent long‑term savings.
